Domain Names |
|
A domain name is the
name of your web space (this is k9-web.co.uk). Choosing the
right domain name is very important. It helps with branding your
chosen name and getting it right can assist your site in search
engine rankings.
If you already have
an affix (kennel name), or a business or personal name then
register it as a domain name as soon as possible. For most sites
in the UK I recommend .co.uk you can also register in
other forms such as .com .net which are better for
businesses. if you feel the need to protect your affix without
hosting, you just hold the name so that nobody else can use it. |

etc. You rent the space from a host and place information you
wish to share or advertise to the world. |

HTML |
|
Is Hypertext Mark-up
Language, the authoring language used to create documents on the
World Wide Web. If you go to a website and right click on a page
and select 'view source' you will see the HTML code used for
that page. Websites are made in HTML code. There are various
programs which allow you to build a website in ordinary language
and then transfers it to HTML for you.

Web Hosting |
|
Web hosting is a
service which allows you to rent space on a server 24/7. Servers
are powerful computers that have extremely large hard drives, or
an array of hard drives. Space is then rented to those who want
a "website presence" on the internet.
Every server on the
internet has a unique numerical IP (Internet Protocol) address.
You can think of servers as apartment buildings with unique
addresses. Each apartment unit within each building is equivocal
to space rented out for individual websites. And like real
apartment buildings, each unit also has an address based on "the
building" in which it is located.

Internet Service Provider (ISP) |
|
ISPs maintain a
dedicated communication line to the Internet; users dial in to
the ISP, which then connects them to the Internet via a
high-speed dedicated communications line via your telephone line
and provided by whoever you subscribe to for internet services
(BT Internet, AOL, Yahoo, Tiscali etc). Your ISP is unique to
your computer. |

Optimisation (SEO) is the process of optimising your website, to
make it more friendly to search engines and thus make it rank
